Madrid's win hinders Olympian aspirations for Mbappé

Desiring the pinnacle of French politics for Kylian Mbappé to embark on a gold rush for France, but the star athlete can't do so. His new team has "made it plain" regarding this matter, Mbappé declared.

The striker, Kylian Mbappé, has discovered he won't be able to play for France in the Olympic football tournament in his home country. He confirmed this during the European Championship in Germany. Primarily, his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid for the upcoming season bars him from participating.

"It seems I won't be present. My team has made it clear they dislike it. I must accept it, I can comprehend it," Mbappé said in Düsseldorf before the first EM quarterfinal match of the runner-up nation. The favored squad starts against Austria at 9 pm (ARD, MagentaTV, and live on ntv.de).

Mbappé shared that he was new to a club. "If I'm not there at the start, that's not what I'd call ideal. For me, that will be unusual. I'll just watch it as a fan," said the 25-year-old. Mbappé announced his transfer to the Champions League champion at the beginning of June. The announcement followed a prolonged game of poker, and a move away from France had been in the works multiple times before.

Mbappé was not included in the preliminary Olympic squad, which France's coach Thierry Henry named at the start of June. However, Henry had expressed optimism. Even French President Emmanuel Macron wished to see Mbappé in the Olympic squad. If France advances to the EM final on July 14, the striker would have little time to recuperate. The hosts face the USA, Guinea, and New Zealand starting from July 24.
