French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a visit to Munster on a state trip coming Tuesday. In a historically significant building, the Historical Town Hall, Macron will be bestowed the Westphalian Peace Prize by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Other prominent political figures are anticipated to grace the ceremony with their presence.

At the ceremony (scheduled just after 10:00 am), Steinmeier, Macron, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst (both from CDU) will address the 350 attendees. WDR Television and Phoenix will live stream the event.

The Westphalian Peace Prize is heading Macron's way for his endeavors to enhance European cooperation. The Economic Society for Westphalia and Lippe, presenting the prize, commended Macron for upholding dialogue with the Russian leadership amid the Russian assault on Ukraine. "Emmanuel Macron is a warrior for freedom, peace, and Europe," noted the jury.

Those eager to see the French President up close have a limited time window around noon: Macron and Steinmeier, alongside their better halves, will emerge on the balcony of the City Weigh House on the Principal Market for a brief while to greet the crowd. Although security measures will be implemented, businesses around Principal Market will still be operational and available to customers.

Plans are in place for a few protest demonstrations during Macron's stay in Munster. Pacifists are protesting against European weapons shipments to Ukraine, anti-nuclear campaigners are demonstrating against the amplification of nuclear energy in France. "We anticipate around 500 participants," reported police spokesperson Jan Schabacker. "There are presently no warnings of disruptions. We anticipate a calm development."
