Customs - Letters to the Christ Child: Christmas post office opens
Bavaria's only Christmas post office opened in Himmelstadt in Lower Franconia on the first Sunday in Advent. By Christmas Eve, the organizers expect 70,000 letters to be written by children to the Christ Child or Santa Claus. Volunteers answer the mail. Several thousand wish lists had already been received before the official opening.
The sun and snow provided the perfect Advent atmosphere, as Rosemarie Schotte, volunteer manager of the Christmas post office, said on Sunday.
Himmelstadt (Main-Spessart district) is home to one of several Christmas post offices in Germany. In response, the girls and boys receive a standardized letter, provided that the sender of the wish list is known. For particularly impressive wish lists or requests, "the Christ Child" writes back a personal letter.
If you would like a reply from the Christ Child, you should address your letter "To the Christ Child, Kirchplatz 3, 97267 Himmelstadt".
