Religious institution. - Katholikentag closes with church service
On Sunday, the 103rd Catholic Day in Erfurt comes to a close, with a huge church service at 10.00 AM. Leading the ceremony will be the chair of the German Bishops' Conference, Georg Bätzing, at the grand cathedral of the Thuringian state capital.
The celebration has been underway in Erfurt since Wednesday, attracting Catholics from all over for their religious gathering. The Central Committee of Germans Catholics, hosting the event, predicts a turnout of 20,000 people. We'll find out on Sunday afternoon if their estimates are accurate. Visitors to the event also include several political representatives. Unfortunately, a platform, where Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) played a part, was disrupted by protestors.
