Israel evening in Halle postponed due to security concerns

The Jewish community in Halle has postponed a celebration to commemorate the founding of Israel 75 years ago due to security concerns. "Although the police have said they want to ensure that the evening can take place safely, we have nevertheless decided to cancel the celebration," Max Privorozki from the state association of Jewish communities in Saxony-Anhalt told the German Press Agency on Friday.

Privorozki, who is also a board member of the Jewish community in Halle, said that many people, including many children, had been invited to the festival planned for Sunday (October 22) at the Capitol in Halle. "That's why we simply can't celebrate the festival now."

According to Privorozki, Israeli songs were to be sung and the country's cuisine presented during the event. "We planned all of this before October 7," said Privorozki. On October 7, the terrorist militia Hamas attacked Israel.

In addition to the Israel evening, other events relating to Israel have also been postponed. "It's simply too dangerous at the moment," said Privorozki. Another reason for the postponement is that people from Israel are usually invited to the events. "Many of them are now defending their country and therefore can't come to Germany."
