In Germany, hundreds of billions need to be invested in the energy infrastructure by 2050

In Germany, according to the assessment of the KfW State Bank, investments of hundreds of billions in energy infrastructure are required by 2050. "The necessary expansion of renewable energies requires suitable and flexible transmission and distribution networks and requires high investments," KfW announced at its first investor conference on Tuesday.

According to a study commissioned by KfW, additional investments of around 300 billion Euros will be required for the network infrastructure alone up to the middle of the century.

The funds cannot come solely from the public sector. KfW CEO Stefan Wintels emphasized that financing the energy transition requires a strong capital market. In order to promote this, the bank intends to foster dialogue between the financial industry, real economy, and politics and to advocate for investment-friendly framework conditions. "We will try to bring the appetite of capital markets in line with the available investments in energy transition," Wintels said.
