Voting outcomes - In Brandenburg, BSW rules out partnering with AfD.

The recently established state branch of the Party Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) will unequivocally distance itself from the AfD, as well as other parties. "The AfD in Brandenburg is considered right-wing extremist. We will have no collaboration with them," stated Robert Crumbach to the German Press Agency. "I am not intrigued by any other parties."

The BSW's state executive was elected last Saturday in Schwedt (Oder). The BSW intends to participate in the Brandenburg state election scheduled for September 22, providing voters with a replacement to the traffic light parties and the CDU and AfD. However, it is uncertain when the party list and program would be finalized, as per Crumbach. The party requires at least 2000 signatures before August 5th to qualify for the state election. There were 36 members from Brandenburg in the party over the weekend.

Crumbach is positive about the election's prospects, affirming, "Certainly, we will be able to gather enough candidates to participate in the state election." The youngest representative poll for "Märkische Allgemeine," "Märkische Oderzeitung," and "Lausitzer Rundschau" reported the BSW securing 13% of the votes, making them eligible for a seat in the state parliament.

Political scientist Jan Philipp Thomeczek from Potsdam asserts that it is plausible for many former AfD voters to switch their support to the BSW. "The BSW speaks to individuals who might lean more economically left-wing than the SPD, but also support stringent limitations on immigration," he clarified. "There might be a shift from the AfD." The Brandenburg State Office for the Protection of the Constitution views the AfD state branch as a right-wing extremist suspicion case, while a few state parliamentarians are classified as right-wing extremists, which the party denies.
