"Hello Spencer" movie celebrates emotional premiere

In the 80s, the children's show "Hallo Spencer" was a hit. After more than two decades, the cult is making a comeback - thanks to a script by Jan Böhmermann. At the world premiere of "Hallo Spencer - The Movie" at the Film Festival Munich, Winfried Debertin, the creator of the 80s children's show, was visibly moved.

For the creator of the 80s children's show "Hallo Spencer", the new film with its puppets is a very emotional matter. At the world premiere of "Hallo Spencer - The Movie" at the Film Festival Munchen, Winfried Debertin fought back tears. The film had "therapeutic value in many ways", he said.

Because it is based on his personal story, it tells how the series creator (played by Rainer Bock in the film) finds puppets and props in an abandoned disco on the outskirts of Hamburg and hopes for a comeback.

In real life, this comeback is due to Jan Böhmermann, who wrote the script and thus also brings his own childhood memories into play. The film was made with the original props from back then, he said at the premiere, which took place in the series "Neues Deutsches Fernsehen". According to his statements, many team members from the puppeteer team from back then are also involved in the new version.

Böhmermann is a mix of "Kasimir and Poldi"

In Debertin's disco on the outskirts of Hamburg, we had "piled up our childhood". He himself was "something between Kasimir and Poldi", said Böhmermann. Kasimir and his somewhat grumpy Burgermeister friend, the sculptor Nepomuk, as well as bookworm Lexi or dragon Poldi, who still threatens: "I will eat you."

Other than that, there is hardly anything the same as in the film almost a quarter of a century after the last "Hallo Spencer" episode was broadcast on television: It deals with the rapid media change between streaming commerce and public-service lethargy. Only "Galaktika from the distant star Andromeda" can help out.

Besides Bock in the leading role, Victoria Trauttmansdorff, Margarita Broich and Jens Harzer can be seen - as well as Olli Dittrich as interchangeable CEO of interchangeable streaming services. The film is to be broadcast on ZDF, a release date is currently not known.

In the film, the comeback of "Hallo Spencer" takes place in Munich's Film Festival, showcasing Jan Böhmermann's contribution to the revival. Allowing his own childhood memories to influence the script, Böhmermann also worked with the original props from the 80s workshop, located in a disco near Hamburg.

Jan Böhmermann, who shares similarities with the 'Kasimir and Poldi' characters, found the props and puppets in the abandoned disco, sparking the idea for a new "Hallo Spencer" movie.
