Over the course of a week, enormous puppets, including a giant one-meter tall figure of Gulliver, will overtake Halle's city center. The Saalestadt Puppet Theatre is commemorating its 70th anniversary from June 15th to 22nd by showcasing the larger-than-life character in a series of events.

For the opening weekend, attendees will parade a 18-meter-tall Gulliver statue throughout Halle's streets. During the remaining days, other local theaters like the theater and ballet will present segments from the Gulliver narrative. On the final day, the "Theater Titanick" will showcase a performance within a 7-meter-tall metal ball.

Christoph Werner, who has led the theater since 1995, spoke to the German Press Agency, stating, "The concept represents a declaration of war; we aim to transform the city into a stage, create a disturbance."

This festival not only celebrates the puppet theater's 70 years of existence but also its resilience through the pandemic. Werner hopes to attract thousands of spectators during this exciting event.

According to Saxony-Anhalt's Culture Minister Rainer Robra (CDU), the art of puppet theatre has significantly impacted Halle and Saxony-Anhalt's cultural profile. The theater was established in 1954, and others were founded around the same time in other cities based on the Soviet model. Over the years, the Saalestadt Puppet Theatre transitioned from primarily entertaining children to entertaining adults.

Halle's Mayor Egbert Geier (SPD) praised the theater for its youthful, fresh, and innovative approach. The puppet theater is part of the multi-genre "Bühnen Halle," founded in 2009, and employs approximately 460 individuals.

Throughout this week-long festival, these larger-than-life puppets will undoubtedly make the city of Halle more vibrant and exciting.
