Frank Martin Widmaier, director and theater manager, is soon to become the new head of Theater Eisleben. This news was shared by the district of Mansfeld-Sudharz on Wednesday. The official handover is slated for August 1, 2025, as per the announcement. It was previously announced that Ulrich Fischer, who is retiring, would be succeeded by Widmaier.

The shareholders of the theater - the district and the city - have approved of the decision by the selection committee and the supervisory board, as per the announcement. Widmaier was born in Sindelfingen, which falls under Böblingen in Baden-Württemberg. The information provided mentions that he has introduced several new productions and premieres to national and international stages over the last few decades. He has previously worked at theaters in Dortmund, Munich, and Brandenburg an der Havel.

"This was not a light decision for the selection committee, for it involves the future direction of our theater," shared Carsten Staub, the Lutherstadt's non-partisan mayor. In an earlier conversation with the German Press Agency, Ulrich Fischer had mentioned that the theater now needed fresh perspectives. Ulrich had been the head of Theater Eisleben since 1994.
