Auto industry giant - Ford initiates manufacturing of its inaugural electric vehicle.

Ford Europe begins production of its first electric vehicle in Cologne on Tuesday. The initial plan was for this to happen in September last year, but delays resulted from the implementation of a new battery standard. Ford has been operating in Cologne since 1930, where it manufactures cars like the Ford Fiesta. The production of the Fiesta ceased to make room for the new electric car.

To produce two different electric models, Ford has spent around two billion euros at the Cologne plant. In this facility, they aim to make up to 250,000 electric vehicles per year. The compact off-road vehicle launching on Tuesday is one of these models, with another model to follow. Ford is somewhat behind in the realm of electromobility, as competitors have already made significant strides. The company remains hopeful for strong sales figures for its new electric vehicle, though the broader electric car market has experienced sluggish growth recently.
