Federal police warn of pickpockets at the main station

After several thefts at Munich Central Station and on trains, the German Federal Police are again warning against pickpocketing. On Wednesday alone, five thefts were reported to the Federal Police, the authorities said on Friday.

For example, two of three pieces of luggage were stolen from a 63-year-old man on the ICE train to Munich. The loss amounted to around 1500 euros. Similarly, a 37-year-old man had his rucksack stolen from the luggage rack above his seat on the train from Zurich to Munich. The rucksack reportedly contained a necklace worth 22,700 euros as well as 2000 US dollars and 3550 euros in cash.

Passengers seated around him were unable to provide any information about the perpetrator. In addition, three initially unknown women stole three purses from three female victims on Tuesday. The purses were found by an unknown person the next day and brought to the Federal Police at the main station. Apart from the cash, nothing was taken from them. One of the victims, a 76-year-old woman, was robbed of 500 euros.

Given the rising crime rate, Upper Bavaria authorities are now urging tourists to be vigilant at Munich's main train station, following multiple reports of thefts. Witnesses failed to identify the culprit in a recent incident where a valuable necklace and cash were stolen from a passenger's bag at the station.
