Drama show - Dramatic debut inspired by Ildikò von Kürthy's latest book

At the premier of the Young State Theatre Parchim's staging of "A Half Century" by famous author Ildikò von Kürthy, the attendees chimed in with sustained applause. This play is a follow-up to her successful debut novel "Moonlight Fare" (1999), which saw a stage adaptation in Parchim from 2011 until 2014.

Marlene Eiberger, an actress, was once again cast into the character of Cora Hübsch from the novel. She captures the perspective and emotions of a woman, now in her fifth decade of life, who's been married for over twenty years and has just sent her third child off. Reevaluating her marital joy in light of her children's departures, she states, "The vibrant paint has worn off," winning the hearts of the audience through her captivating performance.

The stage adaptation of the 320-page "A Half Century" was overseen by Katja Mickan, the head dramaturg at the Young State Theatre, who also directed the production.

In "Moonlight Fare," Ildikò von Kürthy had humorously let her readers glimpse into the life of a 33-year-old woman struggling through daily challenges and falling in love with herself. After an incredible first night together, she anxiously awaited her lover's call. Gaining the courage to grab life by the horns, she resolves the situation to her satisfaction. However, an unfortunate tragedy in the life of her friend casts a cloud over this happiness, leading Cora to find a new love and start a family. When life hands her the commonplace struggles of being a mother, she experiences tremendous fulfillment.

"Twenty-five years after the wedding," Ildikò ponders, "I wanted to know what happened past the joyous finale. Did dreams and plans of Cora Hübsch and Dr. Daniel Hofmann come true? How did life unfold beyond the final sentence?" On her website, she details the inspiration behind the sequel, "A Half Century," published by Wunderlich Verlag in December 2023.
