Horse riding competition - Diana Trial Steals the Spotlight at Hoppegarten
The Diana Trial, boasting a whopping 55,000-euro prize, is the main attraction at Hoppegarten racetrack on Sunday. Racecourse owner Gerhard Schöningh shared, "This Group III bred race spanning 2000 meters holds significant weight as a qualifying contest for the August Diana Classic in Düsseldorf."
The lineup includes seven three-year-old fillies, with Erle ridden by Martin Seidl leading the favorites' pack. Notably, Lady Mary, piloted by 18-year-old Irish jockey hopeful Billy Loughnane, and Egina (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev) are also in the running for the 32,000-euro grand prize.
Schöningh also introduces an extra breeding race to the action: "The cancellation of the Iffezheim race day due to the weather on June 2 forced us to add the Silver Whip at Hoppegarten instead. This fast-paced 1200-meter sprint race packs a 25,000-euro punch. This switch between racecourse communities reflects their traditional camaraderie. Iffezheim and Hoppegarten have shared a friendly bond since 1991."
The fourth of Hoppegarten's eight race days in 2024 is popularly dubbed "Ladies Day," and it's a favorite among the fairer sex.
