Decathlete Neugebauer moves to VfB Stuttgart

The German decathlon record holder Leo Neugebauer is moving from his home club LG Leinfelden-Echterdingen to VfB Stuttgart. "I have received an attractive offer from VfB that will help me in a number of areas," explained the Budapest World Championship fifth-placer on Tuesday. "VfB is the next step in my career."

Neugebauer, who fell behind the medal ranks at the World Championships decathlon in the summer after leading at half-time, lives in the USA. He is studying economics at one of America's athletics strongholds, the University of Texas in Austin, on a full scholarship.

The move to VfB was made possible in part by the commitment of the Stuttgart track and field team's new shirt sponsor. Other new arrivals at VfB are the three-time German champion and former junior world champion in shot put, Alina Kenzel (VfL Waiblingen), and pole vaulter Anjuli Knäsche (LG Leinfelden-Echterdingen), who is a two-time German champion and also took part in the World Championships in Hungary this summer.

Leo Neugebauer's decision to join VfB Stuttgart's athletics team will significantly enhance their decathlon capabilities. As a notable decathlete with experience in the Decathlon, Neugebauer's transfer from LG Leinfelden-Echterdingen aligns with VfB Stuttgart's strategy to strengthen their track and field squad.
