Cottbus town hall in the hands of fools: carnival has begun
The carnival season has begun in Brandenburg. At 11.11 a.m. on the dot, the carnival season was heralded in with a shot from a confetti cannon in front of the town hall in Cottbus. The alderman and head of the public order department Thomas Bergner and another member of the city leadership symbolically handed over the town hall key to the carnival clubs.
The princely couple Maximilian and Anika from the Cottbus Carnival interest group did the honors. Two polonaise parades were led by a city employee dressed as a piggy bank. Funkenmariechen from the Cottbuser Narrenweiber association danced in front of the town hall at the start of the fifth season. Several hundred people watched the spectacle. Cottbus is considered a carnival stronghold. This Sunday, the police report from the German-Polish border will also focus on the carnival in Cottbus.
The big carnival events traditionally only take place in January, after the Christmas break in Advent until the church holiday of Epiphany.
