Chancellor of the Federal Government - Celebrating Scholz's birthday at the G7 summit

To sum up a hard-fought week for Germany's Federal Chancellor, Olaf Scholz: At his 66th birthday bash, heads of state and government from the G7 group and the EU Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, threw a party for him during their meeting in Italy. US President Joe Biden led the "Happy Birthday" cheer for the German Chancellor, as his delegation announced.

Earlier in the night, Scholz, accompanied by his wife Britta Ernst, had marked his birthday with his team and received a birthday cake at midnight. However, the week had not been a breeze for Scholz. With the aftermath of the European elections, his SPD had recorded its worst result since they first participated in federal elections under this name, clocking in at 13.9%. After the G7 summit, the Chancellor heads to the Switzerland peace summit on Ukraine on Saturday. After that, he's got to get ready for the usual grind of preparing Germany's federal budget back in Berlin.
